The equipment, procured under the Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (NREG) programme, with support from five development partners, went to the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission and the Geological Survey Department.

The universities are the Earth Science Department of the University of Ghana and the Geological Engineering Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The equipment included thin section preparatory equipment, laboratory equipment and field equipment to aid in the conduct of seismic survey, as well as hand operated augur set and accessories.

The objective of the programme is to improve NREG in the country to enhance the functions of stakeholder institutions.
Presenting the consignment to the beneficiary institutions in Accra, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, expressed the government’s readiness to assist institutions to flourish.

He recalled that a similar assistance had been offered in recent times, and said that showed the government’s readiness to provide the needed support.

Alhaji Fuseini charged the beneficiary institutions to put the equipment to good use to achieve its intended purposes and also put in place preventive maintenance measures to prolong its lifespan.

“I expect you to use the equipment efficiently to enhance the training of personnel for the mining sector in Ghana,” he added.

The Director of the Geological Survey Department, Mr John Adjei Duodu, who received the equipment on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, thanked the government for the gesture, and promised that the equipment would be put to good use.
