What quiz NSMQ mistress Dr Elsie Effah Kaufmann said in radio interview [VIDEO]
Judges are like umpires, and umpires don't make the rules. They apply them. The rule of an umpire and a judge is critical. You know, they make sure everybody plays by the rules. But it is a limited role. Nobody ever went to a ball game to see the umpire.

She ensures that the rules apply, but is also the one many come to see. Dr Elsie Effah Kaufmann is the quiz mistress of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
She arrived on this beautiful earth on the 7th of September, 1969.
Her roots are traced to the intellectual nurturing hub of the central region of Ghana, precisely, Assin.
However, her academic hike began up the hills in the Eastern Region, at the Aburi Girls Senior High School, Beposo han.
Well, she decided to pursue tertiary education in the USA and completed university education at the University of Pennsylvania, with PhD in Bio Engineering.
And then spent three years at the Rutgers University, USA, post doctoral fellow, and founding director of the Cell Biology Laboratory at New Jersey Center for Biomaterials.
A lot to be said about this great woman nationally. She served on the board of the National Nuclear Research Institute, pioneering technical advisory committee on medical devices of the Food and Drugs Authority, right here in Ghana and the Ghana Standards Authority Technical Committee on Metrology and Measurements.
She's done a lot. Currently, she's serving on the board of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, as well as the councils of the Ghana Communication Technology University.
She is also the immediate past president of the Ghana Society of Biomedical Engineers and has won a plethora of awards. It's simply inspiring. Recently in 2021, she was recognized as one of the many phases of physics, together with 11 other international personalities, including Catherine G. Johnson, the Institute of Physics (IOP) Publishing Diversity and Inclusivity Campaign.
Perhaps her most publicized national and international contribution is her role since 2006 as host quiz mistress of the highly acclaimed National Science and Maths Quiz Competition.
Professor Elsie Akosua Effah Kaufman, the renowned NSMQ quiz mistress, and the Dean of Engineering at the University of Ghana was the guest on the radio talk show, Star Chat on Starr FM on Thursday night (Nov2, 2023).
