While the MSc. Accounting and Finance has already taken off, the MSc in Monitoring and Evaluation begins in January next year.

The president of the university, Prof. Sam Kofi Afrane, announced this at the university’s 41st matriculation ceremony in Kumasi last Saturday.

Four hundred and twenty-five students were admitted to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the 2016/2017 academic year.

Prof. Afrane said the MSc Monitoring and Evaluation was the first to be mounted in the whole of West Africa at the postgraduate level.

The course aims at producing professionals equipped with capabilities to manage the monitoring and evaluation functions in both private and public institutions.

The president of the university said the institution was advanced in securing accreditation to start Basic and Early Childhood Education programme in January next year. The programme is to be a top-up for those who hold diploma in teaching education.

In what appears like an aggressive revolution, the university has also introduced ICM diploma programme in Business Studies, IT and communications.

In January the Christian Service University College would also be admitting students to study theology, business studies, nursing, computer science, information technology, communication studies and planning and social development.

Prof. Afrane also hinted that plans were afoot to obtain a charter to operate as a full fledged university.

Social media

He cautioned the new students against the effects of social media which tended to restrain students from studying seriously.

He also mentioned that although social media had contributed positively to academic work, it was gradually becoming a dangerous tool for promoting vices such as illicit relationships, occultism and mass civil protests .

Morality

Prof. Afrane acknowledged the fact that these vices were as a result of a breakdown in morality and ethical values of which the youth were the most hit.

He said the university which presented the Holy Bible to each new student offered a secure environment to redefine the lives of the students by inculcating into them sound Christian and ethical values and the knowledge of Christ.

Election

Prof. Afrane urged students to contribute in various ways to ensure a credible and peaceful election.

“As young people, you should not allow yourselves to be drawn into any acts of political violence. Election is a contest of ideas and not a battle field, he told the students.
Prof. Afrane urged them to engage one another in healthy debates and also pray that the Lord would guide Ghanaians in choosing the right leaders.
