Some winners of the Ananse Competition organised by the Junior Graphic and Parable Publications joined in the fun as they were presented with free tickets to  watch the show which was part of the prize package.

The children had the opportunity to listen to some of the winning Ananse stories which were sent to the Junior Graphic.

They were also entertained to some local animation movies.

In an interview with the Junior Graphic, a member of the production team of Parables Productions, Mr Kwaku Afrifa Gyamerah, explained that the team had added a modern twist to some of the old Ananse stories so that children could relate with them better.

He said most Ghanaian youth grew up listening to folk tales but over the years, the story-telling sessions had stopped.

‘’These were very imaginative stories which have been stopped due to modern technology, and also because these days children prefer watching cartoons,’’ he stated.

However, he said, Parables Publications and the Junior Graphic want to bring that old culture back with a modern twist so that the young generation could also enjoy those interesting Ananse stories.

Mr Gyamerah indicated that the trend had really changed and that as a nation, we did not have any cartoon brand which was known globally.

According to him, the Ananse character was a Ghanaian brand which would be promoted globally through events, animation, and story telling in a modern way.

‘’And this programme is one of those events which can help promote the Ananse brand,’’ he said.

The programme was sponsored by the Junior Graphic, Yomi Yoghurt and Silverbird Cinemas.
