Letter to the Editor: Let’s learn new things

Dear Editor, I want to urge all students to take advantage of their presence at home during this time of  closure of schools to learn new things.

First, I participate and pay serious attention to the online classes going on. Fortunately for me, my older siblings are also around to help me.

For instance, I now understand  Integrated Science better. Topics such as chemical equations and how to balance them correctly are now very familiar to me.

My parents have also been very helpful. In order to improve on my English Language, they give me at least three books to read in a week. As part of this exercise, I am expected to identify new words in the books I read, search for their meanings and use them to form sentences.

Not only these, they insist I use them in conversations with my friends.  Aside from this, they have hired the services of a private teacher to help me improve in mathematics. For me, I believe these have helped me not to forget what I have been taught in school.

Again, this period at home has made me very useful with regard to domestic work. Formerly, I wasn't helping my mother in the kitchen so I did not know how to do most household chores. Now because I have enough time, I'm more willing to be taught and so I can now scrub the bath house, cook, sweep, wash my clothes and utensils.

Staying at home because of the closure of schools has not been bad for me at all.
Freda Forson,

Nkwatia Presby Basic School.
