Letter to the Editor: Stop open defecation at Chorkor!

Dear Editor, I live at Chorkor, a suburb of Accra, and I would like to bring to the notice of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) the poor sanitary conditions of the area.

Most of the houses there do not have toilets. As a result, most people defecate at unapproved places and others too do it along the seashore which serves as a place of leisure and relaxation to other people.

This problem has become a headache for the residents of Chorkor during this time of COVID-19 because we have all been urged to keep our environment clean, but this is not working here because of the situation at hand.

The people who do not have toilets in their houses should be encouraged to build some for themselves to solve this problem.

Also, people should be educated on the dangers of  open defecation which could cause a deadly disease outbreak.

I am afraid that if one person gets infected with COVID-19, all of us would be in danger because of the insanitary conditions here.
