According to the students, apart from helping them improve their grammar, their academic performance had begun to improve.
The Junior Graphic, which covers major aspects of their syllabi, according to the students, was introduced to them by the current headteacher at the beginning of the term.
“My English grammar is now improving, just like Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. I have also been learning how to write good essays, so I will continue reading the paper every week. Reading the paper regularly will improve my academic performance and with that, I am sure to get good grades at the BECE.” Ellen Esi Barnes, a JHS 1 student said in an interview.
The students were in class studying vectors in Mathematics when the Junior Graphic caught up with them.
To the students, questions and answers on English Language, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science enabled them to understand those subject areas and specific topics.
“I want students from other public schools also to subscribe to the paper as a way of improving on their academic work, “ she advised.
For her part, Jennifer Asamoah, also a JHS 1 student, said since she started reading the paper, it had not only helped her to improve on the English Language but also assisted her to understand some of the other core subjects better than before.
