It is for this reason why Springboard, Your Virtual University, a radio programme on Joy FM, used this week’s edition to educate entrepreneurs on how to go global.

The host of the show, Rev. Albert Ocran, shared with listeners what he described as his A-Z of going global. He was speaking on the topic ‘Speaking the global language.

He said language was often expressed in words which were constructed by alphabets and ,therefore, used alphabets as acronyms to give his own interpretation of the things that one needs to go global.

“There are 26 alphabets and I have given them my own words and my own meanings and the meanings of these words will be critical in your quest to go global. They are what you will need to be a barrier breaker and operate in the global world,” he stated.

A – Anticipation; He explained this as being able to consider something before it happens or being able to preempt or predict that something will happen. “You should be able to anticipate an opportunity before it comes. If you want to climb the train of opportunities, you must anticipate it before it arrives and not wait for it to come before you come onboard,” he said.

B – Borderless; He said, “they are no bothers today. The borders we have erected between our countries are now imaginary barriers because there are people who sit in Ghana and regularly do business with people they have never seen and might never see in their lives. To go global, you must ,therefore, think beyond your immediate location.”

C – Competition; “It’s a very competitive world and to survive, you must think outside the box and be competitive,” he stated.

D – Decisiveness; “For many of us, we meet the greatest opportunities of our life time but we are indecisive and by the time you might have finished deciding someone else might have taken the opportunity. There is no space for indecisive people in today’s world,” he noted.

E – Efficiency; “whatever you do, you must be efficient in it and be competent in your performance. You must use the minimum amount of time and effort to get results,” he indicated.

F – Functionality; He pointed out that “whatever you do must be functional. You must be able to deliver the promises you make. You must be capable of delivering the purpose for which you were hired.”

G – Globalisation; This, he said, was a fusion between global and local and he said this was very important because many times when people talk about going global, people think about passports and visas, but one can be right in his her locality and still go global with his products and services. “You must customise locally marketed products in a way that can be adapted to several cultures,” he said.

H – Hunger; “This a platform on which you can succeed in life. You should not get satisfied with the little that you have achieved and be hungry for more achievements,” he mentioned.

I – Integration; He described this as forming, coordinating and blending things into a unified whole. “You must connect, link and bring things together to generate multiple streams of income,” he said.

J – Justice: “Be fair to people and create fair opportunities for all stakeholders. You must be fair to your customers and not cheat them as this will help you guarantee long-term success,” he noted.

K – Kaizen; “This is a Japanese word that simply means improve little by little everyday so you must progress step by step,” he stated.

L– Leveraging; “This is building layer upon layer. You must use something to maximum advantage. When you build a brand, you must leverage the brand. You must be adventurous and build on existing layers,” he pointed out.

M – Markets; “Think about different opportunities, different platforms and link up with each of them. Whatever you do ask yourself what it will be like in other countries. Sometimes you need to do some little adjustments and it can be used in other countries,” he said.

N – Navigation; He said “for you to get from where you are to where you want to be, you need to plot the route and navigation will help you to find the space and help you build from one point to another.”

O – Opportunity; “Everyone will get an opportunity in his or her life time and the most dangerous thing that could happen to someone is when your door of opportunity opens and you are not even aware and it passes so you have to be aware and take your opportunity when it arrives,” he mentioned.

P – Power; He said power was one’s ability to enable people to do things without hesitation. To go global, he said one must develop the ability to possess power and ability to influence people to work with them and stand with them.

Q – Questions; “Ask hard questions. The quality of questions you ask will determine the solutions you come out with. If you ask very tough questions about life, you will find unique answers. When you ask questions, you unlock the secret doors of life,” he indicated.

R – Reliability; “People will give you opportunities and when they do, be reliable for them to be able to recommend you to other people,” he said.

S–Social media; “Understand and utilise social media appropriately because it possess amazing opportunities. Research is proving it is one of the most efficient ways of communicating to anyone anywhere in the world,” he pointed out.

T – Trust; “People must trust you that if they commit their lives into your hand, they will not fall. People must trust you as a professional and someone who can deliver,” he said.

U – Uniqueness; He said “if you want to be outstanding on the global stage, there must be something you are projecting and that thing must be unique. Whatever you are doing, find your space, find your gift and it will make room for you.”

V – Vision; He described vision as a picture of a desirable future state and for one to be successful globally, he or she must set a clear vision for himself or herself in the short to long-term. “This vision must be huge and strong and must be something that will drive you,” he said

W – Win-Win; “Don’t be selfish and don’t think about yourself alone. There will be several times in your life when you can make a choice that will only benefit you and there will be another alternative that will open up the space for other people too, make no mistake and don’t think about yourself alone,” he advised.

X–Xanadu; “This is that idealistic place that you imagined. It talks about ideas some of them which are not attainable but worth conceiving,” he indicated.

Y–Yearning; Rev. Ocran also advised everyone to be yearning to do something in his or her lifetime. “You must yearn to do something which looks seemingly impossible,” he said.

Z–Zest; “Enjoy the journey. Sometimes you may not have food, sometimes your friends may laugh at you but once there is life there is hope so enjoy the journey,” he concluded. — GB
