‘I will make Ghana proud’

Twenty two year-old Ms Anawate Georgette Adeyiga, winner of the maiden edition of the Miss International Ghana pageant, has promised to make Ghana proud at the international competition slated for Japan,Tokyo next year.

The Miss International pageant has been held since 1960. It aims at promoting world peace, goodwill and understanding. 

 Ms Adeyiga a medical student abroad, hopes to be the first African to win the annual event on the world stage.

In an interview with The Mirror, she said she was ready to showcase Ghana to the world and hopefully bring home the crown.

Music world remembers Fela

Afro-beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti died in 1997 but the vibrancy of his music was heard on many stages across the world last Saturday, October 17 when he was celebrated at several Felabration events for his important contribution to popular music.

In Accra, the action was at the Alliance Francaise where musicians such as Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Kankam, Oppong Kyekyeku, Blakk Rasta, YaaYaa and Ebo Taylor got together for a memorial concert.

All set for MUSIGA Congress

All is set for the MUSIGA Congress slated for the Eastern regional capital, Koforidua and scheduled for Thursday October 29, to Saturday, October 31, 2015.

 This follows a meeting between the Union’s Election Committee and some of the candidates contesting for MUSIGA’s national elections.

The meeting discussed a number of issues relating to the congress including the delegates list for the elections.

The chairman of the Election Committee, Ben Brako, assured the candidates that the Election Committee is operating in the supreme interest of the Union and not in any individual’s interest.

Partee time with Rekxboiz

 They are a group of eleven guys supported by two ladies and have been around just like their songs. 

 However, their latest track which keeps receiving much airplay seem to have eluded many people in the entertainment industry as well as music lovers who have not paid attention to trace the exploits and whereabout of this group.

Known as Rekxboiz, the Tema based group led by Jeremiah Obuobi, seem to be running faster than they had anticipated with their latest release called “Partee”. The new song has since its release a few weeks ago witnessed more than 60, 000 downloads.

Miss Photogenic contest starts Thursday

Fans of contestants of this year’s Miss Ghana would get the opportunity of making their favourite grab the Miss Photogenic title by voting for them.

The “Miss Photogenic” competition is a collaboration between the organisers of the pageant, Exclusive Events and Graphic Showbiz.

Nothing but the best on Sunday

 The Accra International Conference Centre will on Sunday, October 25, host the rich culture and heritage of the people of Ghana when the four finalists of this year’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant take turns to display not just their beauty and intelligence but the culture of their respective regions.

The four- Sika, Fafa, Esi and Afariwaa who are representing the Ashanti, Volta, Central and Eastern regions respectively have not just the responsibility to project the culture of their people but to give the winning region on the day the bragging rights for clinching the Most Beautiful crown for the second time.

Miss Ghana’15 contestants hit the runway

AS part of preparations towards the finals of Miss Ghana 2015, the contestants participated in a fashion show held at the Junction Mall, Nungua on Saturday, October 17, at 7pm.

The contestants, some of them captured here by our cameraman Nii Martey Botchway, appeared on the runway in smart casual attires by Melanie Crane and formal wear by Ndichie by Akorfa while their collection of evening wear was designed by both designers.

Kinbu school wins drama contest

The Kinbu Senior High Technical School emerged tops in this year’s Sankofa Senior High Schools Drama Competition recently organised by the Greater Accra Centre for National Culture (CNC).

The contest featured 16 schools and Nungua Senior High School placed second with St. Thomas Aquinas taking the third position.

La Agbawe wins cooking contest

La Agbawe were adjudged winners of a Ga-Dangbe traditional cooking competition held last Friday, October 9, at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra as part of events marking the 2015 Homogeneous Festival in Accra.

The competition, dubbed Onga Homowo Cooking Competition, involved 12 indigenous Ga-Dangbe communities: Nungua Obienetso Shihie, Kpone Sanshie, La Agbawe, Tema Ashaman, Osudoku Dorsi, Gbugbla Kotoko Prampram, Ningo Lower Adainya, Ada Otumfuo Wem, Shai/Dodowa Mahiome, Ga Mashi Bantama, Osu Teinor We and Teshie Krobor.

The contestants prepared dishes that best represented their communities.

The nude factor at Chale Wote Festival

Performance art has, without doubt, been prevalent in Ghana for generations but a sort of renaissance is gradually unfolding following bold performances by artists like Bernard Akoi Jackson, Akwele Suma Glory and Olaniyi Akindiya from the last decade and half or so.

Since then, a number of highly charged performances have rocked Accra and beyond during exhibitions involving both local and foreign artists.

Undeniably, these acts were technically and intellectually thorough as well as complex and multi-faceted, though they appeared to be quite simple.

In recent years, the Chale Wote Street Art Festival, which is becoming a powerful fixture on the Ghanaian arts scene, has been noted for presenting performing artists from Ghana and abroad.

R2bees to shake KNUST

After successful concerts at University of Ghana, Legon and University of Cape Coast recently, Echo House Ghana takes the Fresh A Affair to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) on Saturday, October 17.

The concert which is conjunction with Tonaton.com promises to be even bigger and more exciting as it will feature award winning music duo, R2bees and their label mate Criss Waddle, Lil Shaker and Episode who will entertain the patrons with the best of performances.

12 finalists for Face of Faith Africa

The premises of Praise TV, Okponglo was transformed into a haven of beautiful ladies when the 12 finalists of this year’s Faith of Africa pageant were unveiled at a ceremony on Sunday, October 11.

The pageant which is in its second year aims at giving young ladies from the Christian fraternity to display their beauty in a godly way.

This year’s journey started with about 100 ladies auditioning. The number was pruned and finally, the 12 ladies were settled on.

Appietus: Don’t be influenced by money

With the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) elections just around the corner, popular sound engineer, Kwame Appiah Dankwa, aka Appietus, who is vying for the presidency has asked delegates to vote wisely and  not allow themselves to be influenced by money.

The MUSIGA elections comes off on October 29 at Koforidua in the Eastern Region. Appietus is in contention for the top most post with Gyedu Blay Ambolley and the incumbent, Bice Osei Kufour aka Obour.

­­Felabration comes to Accra

To celebrate the immense influence of Nigerian Afro-beat star, Fela Anikulapo Kuti on popular music in Ghana and elsewhere, Alliance Française Accra will host an official Felabration celebration in Accra alongside what is done in Nigeria and other countries across the world.

The Ghana event would be led by veteran guitarist, composer and arranger, Ebo Taylor. He will shed some light on the music of Fela and its impact across the world.

There’s more to pageants than glam

Former Miss Malaika finalist, Alexandria Ayirebi-Acquah has asked contestants of beauty pageants not to look at only the glitz, glamour and fame that come with such events but also focus on using the platform to better their lot.

She said contestants who focused only on the glamourous aspect of such events were selling themselves short, considering the myriad of opportunities for personal improvement and networking that are available to them by virtue of the platforms.
