Christmas at the Cathedral on December 10
ACCRA is set to witness a harmonious fusion of classical and choral music on December 10, 2023, as the Holy Spirit Cathedral hosts the inaugural edition of Christmas at the Cathedral.
Organised under the leadership of Ghana-based Nigerian classical singer, Kelvin Uhondo, the concert promises to be a captivating experience for classical and choral music enthusiasts.
The 4pm concert boasts a stellar lineup of singers, including Baritone Kennedy Dankwa, Franklyn Gyimah, Mitchelle Ajeigbe, Naadu Nunoo, Alberta Opata, Kelvin Acheampong, Michael Ewusi Aboagye, Nii Kpakpo, and accomplished accompanists such as Constant Ahadzivia, Akyeampong Magnus, Prince Essuman, and renowned composer Kwaku Boakye Frempong.
In a chat with Graphic Showbiz, Kelvin Uhondo explained that the concert aims to add a unique touch to the festivities and also raise funds to support the construction of a children's hospital which is one of the initiatives of the ‘Legacy of Hope’ project led by Catholic Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp.
"We are looking at adding a new flair to the Christmas celebration and the concert is just for that. Also, we want to use our platform to support a worthy cause that was started by the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Accra Archdiocese, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp who is undertaking a legacy project to build a children's hospital here in the Capital.
“Archbishop Kwofie is the special guest of honour at the concert and the auxiliary Bishop of Accra Archdiocese, Most Rev. John Kobina Louis, will be the guest speaker”, he added.
Kelvin Uhondo, the driving force behind this musical extravaganza, is no stranger to the grand stage.
He performed at the funeral of the late President Flt Lt J.J Rawlings at the Holy Spirit Cathedral and is a regular at the Afro Classical Nights show. He thus brings a wealth of experience and passion to promoting classical music in Ghana.
