Mr Baye rejoins the bank from the Merchant Bank Ghana Limited, where he was Head of Consumer Banking.

He takes over from Andrew Okai, who was recently appointed the Chief Executive Officer for Standard Chartered Zambia plc.

A release from the bank said, “He brings to the role a wealth of experience in banking spanning over 16 years.”

It said Mr Baye previously joined Standard Chartered Bank in 1997 as a management trainee and rose through the ranks to become Cluster Head of Wealth Management, West Africa.

“He joined Barclays Bank Ghana Limited in 2008 as Head of Retail Distribution before joining Merchant Bank Ghana Limited in 2010”, the release said.

Commenting on the appointment, the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered, Ghana, Mr Kweku Bedu-Addo, said “Henry is a very experienced banker, well-respected with strong leadership credentials and a track record in driving performance.”

He said Mr Baye’s experience and knowledge of the retail market segments was a strong plus for the bank.

Mr Bedu-Addo said, “having developed his career with us originally, we see a good fit in his role as our retail bank head. He is no doubt a great addition to our management team and we are glad to have him back with us”.

Mr Baye is expected to drive Standard Chartered Bank’s retail banking strategy in a fast growing and very competitive Ghanaian market.

He holds a B.Com Degree from the University of Cape Coast and an MBA Finance from the University of Ghana, Legon.

He is a Fellow of the London Securities Institute and the Institute of Direct Marketing, United Kingdom.
