President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has donated GHC500,000 to Ampem Darkoa Ladies by way of support in their campaign in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League.

The donation follows an appeal made by the team for support to prepare and compete in the November 5 to 19 competition slated for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Yesterday, the players and officials of the club visited the Jubilee House to present their collection of trophies, comprising the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title, Women’s FA Cup and WAFU Zone B Champions League title to the president.

As Ghana’s champion, Ampem Darkoa Ladies participated in the WAFU B Champions League in Nigeria and won the single slot to represent the zone in the continental tournament next month.

The leader of the delegation was the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Opoku Bobie; alongside the Bono East Regional Minister, Kwasi Adu-Gyan; the Ghana Football Association Executive Council member, Eugene Nobel Amon Noel; the Greater Accra Regional Football Association Chairman, Samuel Aboabire.

The team was received by President Akufo-Addo, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Pare; the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante; and the Director of State Protocol, Dr Emmanuel Enos.

During the visit, the Team Manager of the Techiman-based club, Nana Effah, highlighted their impressive track record, which included winning the domestic league for five times and being the only team to have successfully defended the FA Cup title.

He mentioned their journey to the qualification of the 2023 tournament after winning the WAFU tournament, expressing their readiness to make Ghana proud in Abidjan.

The club’s spokesperson appealed to President Akufo-Addo for financial support, citing their challenge in raising the required GH¢400,000 budget for their continental campaign.

In response, President Akufo-Addo announced that the government would provide the budgetary support and the additional GHC100,000 to the playing body for their triple success.

He commended the team for their exploits, and assured them of his support for the needed confidence and motivation to make themselves and Ghana proud in the Champions League.

“I will keenly follow you in your campaign in Abidjan, and be assured of our full support. Go and excel and make yourselves and Ghana proud,” President Akufo-Addo said.
