Female wrestling coach honoured in Senegal

Traditional wrestling coach Cynthia Kafui Dotsey has been honoured by the West Africa Traditional Wrestling Federation as the first-ever female coach in an ECOWAS African Wrestling tournament.

She received her award at the just-ended Eighth ECOWAS Wrestling De Dakar in Senegal.

Ampomah, Flings grab top awards

Ghana javelin record holder John Ampomah last Saturday made history as the first athlete to win back-to-back Kempinski Liquid Sports Ghana Male Athlete of the Year award.

Fitness instructor to promote personal exercises

A Ghanaian fitness instructor, Charles Owusu Ansah, says he is embarked on a mission to promote exercise as part of the everyday life of Ghanaians.

This, the fitness instructor says, will help create a natural healthy people as it has been established that regular exercises prevent more than half of the medical conditions that many people face.

Confusion rocks GAA over Ghana’s failure to participate in IAAF World Relay

Ghana’s female relay team failed to make it to the IAAF World Relay Championship slated for Bahamas this weekend following the association’s failure to raise a paltry $20,000. for the trip.

Team Ghana is ranked 11th on the continent and was expected to battle other 42 African countries in Nassau, Bahamas, in a qualification competition for the London World Championships in August this year.

Barely six months after enrolling at the Norfolk State University (NSU) on a sporting scholarship, former Youth Olympic gold medallist Martha Bissah has shone early after being adjudged Female Athlete of the Year at the Spartans’ athletics department’s end-of-year awards ceremony last Monday.

Meanwhile, the young athlete’s benefactor and former national athletics chief, George Haldane Lutterodt, has entreated the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, to open an inquiry into the suspension of the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics 800m gold medallist from the national team.

“GOC wants many athletes qualify for Commonwealth”

The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, says his outfit is committed to working towards having many athletes qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia next year.

Mr Nunoo Mensah, however, admits that most of the athletes in the country are not ready for the Games without any preparations.

Akpokavie pledges to work with Nunoo-Mensah

The General Secretary of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Richard Akpokavie, has pledged to work with newly-elected president, Ben Nunoo Mensah, to develop sports in the country.

Mr Akpokavie retained his seat after defeating Mohammed Sahnoon by 36 to 26 votes in a keenly contested elections last Wednesday in Accra.
