They have been tasked with the objective to annex the parliamentary seats in the orphan constituencies in the forthcoming elections and also increase the party’s presidential votes.

Currently, the NDC has 19 seats, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) holds 11 seats in the region while the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has one.

The inauguration was held at Damongo in the West Gonja District in the Northern Region on Tuesday, bringing to three the number of regional campaign taskforces the vice-president has inaugurated.

Mr Amissah-Arthur recently inaugurated campaign taskforces for the Central and Western regions.

Membership

The taskforce has the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, as the campaign coordinator, with Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations and the Northern Regional Minister, Mr Abdulai Abubakar, as members.

It is also made up of some regional executive members of the NDC in the region.

While Mr Iddrisu will chair the political committee of the taskforce, Alhaji Limuna will be chairman of the finance and resource mobilising committee.

Task

Charging the taskforce to work hard to ensure a resounding victory for President John Mahama, the Vice-President said the President was the best bet for Ghanaians in the polls, since he came with a combined strength of youthfulness and experience of office.

Present were metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives, as well as NDC regional and constituency executives and parliamentary candidates whom Mr Amissah-Arthur tasked to sell the government’s message of transformation.

He said President Mahama was the only candidate that represented hope for Ghanaians and for which reason he asked the electorate to repose confidence in the President to deliver on the promises he had made.

Response

Responding, Alhaji Limuna promised to deliver a resounding victory in presidential votes for the President in the region and called for teamwork to achieve that feat.

He gave an assurance that the taskforce would work hard to increase the presidential votes from the 460,000 it polled in 2008 to more than the 570,000 votes the party garnered for President Mahama in the region during the 2012 election.

He asked party faithful in the region to close their ranks and work in unity towards securing a ‘one touch’ victory for the NDC.

The Vice-President later addressed a mini rally of jubilant NDC supporters at the Damongo lorry park where he made a case for the re-election of President Mahama.
