Chiefs, people of Duori laud Prez Mahama

President John MahamaThe chiefs and people of Duori in the Jirapa District in the Upper West Region have organised a durbar to thank President John Dramani Mahama for appointing a citizen of the town, Madam Vivian Kunkuo, as the District Chief Executive.
The durbar attracted a number of personalities including the paramount chief of the area, Naa Ansoaleh Ganaah II (Mr. Peter Nanfuri), the chief of Duori, Naa Tikang Diedong Dombo, a former member of parliament for Jirapa, Dr. Francis Dakurah, and Madam Vivian Kunkuo, the new DCE.

Addressing the gathering, chief of Duori, Naa Dombo, commended President Mahama for the honour done the people of the area.

He said since the creation of the Upper West Region in 1983, this was the first time that somebody from the town had been appointed a DCE.

“The name of President Mahama shall continue to be on the lips of our people because of the honour bestowed on us”, he added.

Naa Dombo appealed for a new dam to promote dry season farming since the present one was not adequate enough to meet the needs of the people.

He also appealed for additional classroom blocks to cater for children in adjoining towns and villages and also a teacher training college or a senior high school at Duori.

He advised Madam Kunkuo to endeavour to tolerate all shades of opinion in the development process of the district.

Madam Kunkuo thanked President Mahama for the honour done her and called on the people to support her to succeed in her endeavours as the DCE.

She gave an assurance that the Jirapa District Assembly would take steps to ensure that the old dam was rehabilitated.
