NGO donates computers, science materials to 35 schools

Thirty- five schools have received computer systems and science laboratory materials from the Progress In Education (PIE), a non- governmental organsation based in Ghana and the United States of America.

The items, worth more than $100, 000, include 99 sets of computer processing units and LCD monitors, printers and toners, models, thermometers, stop watches, goggles, beakers, and other glassware.

The beneficiary institutions, drawn from all 10 regions, include: Jachie Pramso Senior High School, Kumasi Girls Senior High School, Breman Asikuma Senior High School, Labone Senior High and Bolga Girls Senior High School .

Others include Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High, Savelugu Senior High, School of Hearing Impaired, Krobo Girls Senior High, Bimbilla Senior High School, and the Bogoso Community Library.

The presentation ceremony, which was held at the Covenant Family Community Church in Accra, brought together representatives of each beneficiary school and the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Commendation

The Chief Executive Officer of Jislah Financial Services, Mr Emmanuel T. Obeng said the presentation by PIE was to promote social justice among the relatively deprived sections of the Ghanaian populace.

He lauded the initiative of the organisation to help relieve the plight of some schools in the country and appealed to individuals and other organisations to emulate PIE’s  gesture.

The National Co-ordinator of PIE, Rev. Emmanuel Ansah, said the motive for the presentation by his outfit was to complement the efforts of the government in the provision of science and ICT equipment to schools.

Rev. Ansah, who doubles as the Senior Associate Pastor of the Covenant Family Community Church, further urged the beneficiary schools to put the items to good use.

Beneficiary’s response

A student of  Breman Asikuma Senior High School, Master Nuworkpor Mawuena, expressed his appreciation to PIE Ghana and USA, and stated that  the presentation of ICT and laboratory gadgets to the school would beef up the practical knowledge of the students.
