Asanteman Council announces death of Bantamahene

The Asanteman Council has been informed of the death of the Bantamahene, Nana Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatia V who was also the war Marshall of the Asantehene.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the announcement when he chaired the council’s meeting on Thursday at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

As tradition demands, the chief’s death was initially made known to the Asantehene by some prominent chiefs. Otumfuo who later chaired the Asanteman Council meeting announced it.

The Chief Linguist Nsuoase Poku Agyemang who spoke on behalf of the Asantehene expressed sorrow over the passing of the Bantamahene and indicated the Asantehene could not adjudicate cases before the council on Thursday because Asanteman had lost a prominent chief

The late chief of the Kumasi suburb in the Ashanti region was said to be unwell recently.

The Bantama stool is very prominent in Kumasi and the Manhyia Palace.

Nana Amankwatia V was enstooled in 2002 to succeed the late Baffuor Awuah V who died in 2002.

He was known in private life as Ben Kwadwo Owusu Asare, the eldest son of a former Bantamahene, Baffuor Amankwatia IV.

The occupant of the Bantama stool pays an unalloyed loyalty, dedication and honesty to the Asantehene. He is also the head of the Krontire clan of the Kumasi Traditional Council and also serve as the war marshal of the Asantehene.
