Administrative professionals week observed
The Professional Secretaries Association of Ghana (PROSAG), joined the global community to celebrate this year’s Administrative Professionals Week which fell on Wednesday, April 24.

The event was marked with training programmes aimed at equipping secretaries with the requisite knowledge to keep them abreast of current trends in their profession.
As part of the celebrations, the Management, Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) organised training sessions for various administrative staff/secretaries from selected ministries.
The secretaries were taken through programmes such as office management and performance skills, effective communication and reporting, data processing and management information systems and office wear and make up.
The day is an annual festivity observed by secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists and other administrative professionals in several countries around the world.
Over the years, the week has become one of the largest workplace observances. It is an event celebrated worldwide through community events, social gatherings, and various corporate activities recognising support from staff, who are presented with gifts.
Opening the programme, a Deputy Director at the Department of Social Welfare, Mr Lawrence Ofori-Addo, advised the secretaries to assert themselves and make their voices heard noting that “docility and quietness is not good for your profession.”
He described secretaries as the heartbeat of any organisation explaining that the first port of call in any institution was the secretary’s desk and urged them to regularly upgrade their skills to remain relevant in their chosen profession.
Mr Ofori-Addo noted that without secretaries, the core functions of any organisation would be impeded in view of the role secretaries play in an organisation.
The Founder and President of PROSAG, Ms Rosemary Ackah, told the Daily Graphic that the body was registered in 2010 with the aim of amalgamating all secretaries in the public sector, as well as sensitising them to ensure best professional practice.
The association, she added, had participated in a number of forums including the second African Parliamentary Reporters, Secretaries and Administrative Professionals in Nigeria.
