The awards will be in 14 categories with a total of 28 awardees expected to be presented with plaques in areas such as Overall Best HR Personality, Best HR Organisation, Most Innovative use of Technology, and Most People-focused Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

It is scheduled for March 25, 2017.

‘HR practitioners are key’

At the launch in Accra yesterday, the President of IHRMP, Mr John Wilson, said HR practitioners played a critical role in harnessing and managing the human resource that the organisations and the country relied on for development.

In that regard, he called for priority to be given to the building of the capacity of HR practitioners to be abreast of modern trends.

“People are valuable assets to the growth of organisations and to the development of the country. But, these people are managed by HR practitioners, which means that premium has to be put on equipping the HR department in organisations and institutions in order to propel national development,” he added.

Mr Wilson urged HR practitioners to form networks and share ideas on how to enhance best practices in their profession.

He further asked them to use the award scheme as a motivation to explore innovative ways of managing human resource, given the fact that the world was fast trending with technology.

Prioritise HR

The Executive Director of IHRMP, Mr Ebenezer Agbettor, said many organisations had failed to establish a solid HR regime in their work environment, pointing out that such a situation stalled the efficiency of labour.

He urged the industry players to rise above the challenges that confronted them in their line of duty by always striving to learn new things.

Background

The first time the IHRMP held an award ceremony for its members was in 2013. It was done in collaboration with L’aine Services Company and HR Forum.

At its annual general meeting last year, the IHRMP members resolved to rebrand the defunct award scheme and replace it with the Ghana HR Star Award.
