There was a similar surprise result in the female final as Beatrice blasted from the blocks to win her race in a fast time of 11:48 seconds.

The two winners went home with GH¢20,000 each,  medals and plaques, but Dasor told the Daily Graphic that he had presented his prize money to the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) to help develop the sport.

Dasor, 18, told the Graphic that he was ready to hoist the nation’s flag at the Commonwealth Games and other major international competitions because his winning time fell within the qualification mark for such international competitions.

The Tecno Ghana’s Fastest Human competition started three months ago through a nationwide talent hunt for the fastest male and female runners.

According to the organisers, the 10 best talents identified among the 40 participants would begin a non-residential camping from November 2013 to November 2014.
