The Bosomtwe District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Matthew Agbenu, who made the call, said although people had every right to participate in the election, there was the need for them to be careful with what they did during the period so that they would not come face to face with the laws of the land.

Mr Agbenu was speaking at a function to climax a two-month sensitisation programme at the Saint George’s Senior High/Technical School at Kuntanase. It was organised by the NCCE in collaboration with the European Union.

The programme was aimed at educating the electorate about the upcoming election and whipping up their interest to deepen democracy in the country.

20 Communities

During the two months, the education team was able to visit 20 communities, educating and sensitising marginalised groups, faith-based groups, first-time voters, people with disabilities and women groups.

They visited Aputuogya, Abidjan-Nkwanta, Yaase, Adagya, Kuntanase, Jachie, Nyameani, Pramso and others where they met artisans, students, pensioners, faith-based organisations.

First-time voters were taken through the various stages of voting and how to prevent spoiling their votes or wasting their votes.

Mr Agbenu said he was poised to organise more educational programmes to inculcate in the citizens the virtue of good citizenship and the mode of building cordial and a healthy relationship as a means of developing the various communities.
