Speaking at the sixth congregation of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in Accra last Saturday, Mrs Quartey-Papafio said it was time for the youth of Ghana to add value to themselves and be steadfast in their search for opportunities.

A total of 2,439 students from the faculties of management studies, accounting and finance, communication studies and the School of Graduate Studies graduated.

They comprised 251 diplomates, 1,905 graduates and 283 postgraduate students.

Mrs Quartey-Papagio said being an entrepreneur "comes from what you look at and what you can do."

She said the next step was for the entrepreneur to capitalise on the opportunity to launch himself or herself into business.

"You may have sleepy nights but don't give up. Make sure that you excel. Task yourself to achieve more," she urged.

Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor of UPSA, Prof. Joshua Alabi, said the university had gained candidacy status with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes (ACBSP), a global body that accredited business, accounting and business-related programmes at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate levels worldwide.

Consequently, he said the UPSA had redesigned the structure of the undergraduate and graduate programmes in conformity with ACBSP and National Accreditation Board (NAB) standards.

Prof. Alabi said as part of requirements for full accreditation, all students of the UPSA had to undertake both inbound and outbound examinations.

He said the result of the outbound examination for the 2013/2014 academic year revealed that UPSA graduates performed creditably higher with an aggregate pool of 51.93 per cent compared to graduates from universities within America with an aggregate pool of 51.37 per cent and all accredited ACBSP institutions with an average pool of 51.29 per cent.

"The revelation based on the comparison by ACBSP was amazing as the retained knowledge of UPSA graduates was found to be slightly higher above graduates across the globe," he said.

Prof. Alabi said plans were far-advanced to introduce distance education in the university.

He said a modern library and reading room complex building project, which began in 2010, had been completed.

Chancellor

The Chancellor of UPSA, Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, urged the graduates never to give up in their dreams but try to make a difference in their respective chosen fields.

"You will be judged in the distant future, not for your  inaction, or for setting your sights too low, but for your actions and the boldness of your dreams," he said.
