The Mirror goes online

Beginning today, August 31, readers of The Mirror, a family newspaper of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), will be able to read stories, features and articles by columnists published in the paper online.

By logging on to www.graphic.com.gh/mirror, readers can have access to articles that border on relationships, health, lifestyle, fashion, legal issues and other exclusive content.

According to the Director of News, GCGL, Mrs Mavis Kitcher, the move is to give readers 24-hour access which would improve reader and advertiser experience.

She said the digital revolution in the media landscape required that media houses kept up with modern trends by developing innovative ways to reach their readers.

Mrs Kitcher said in addition to graphic.com.gh which is the online version of the Daily Graphic, almost all other brands, such as the Graphic Business, Graphic Sports and Graphic Showbiz, had established a strong presence online, and  that The Mirror going online showed the company’s preparedness to adapt to modern trends.

“Digitisation has become a basic requirement for all media houses, we have operated as a credible newspaper company for decades and it is that same credibility that we have migrated online.

“The Mirror is a family paper and our online page offers exciting, educative and compelling features for each member of the family irrespective of their location or time. It also presents our advertisers a bigger platform to reach people around the world,” Mrs Kitcher explained.

Mr Francis Osabutey, Web Developer at GCGL, added that “the site was built with the readers of The Mirror in mind, thus providing our audience with carefully selected lifestyle, health, fashion, relationship tips and other exclusive content in a simple, safe, fast and mobile-friendly manner.”

“Although the majority of readers prefer to read their news online, security issues continue to be a problem. We continue to take proactive steps to protect all GGCL online sites against breaches and hacks. We are also aware of how expensive data is and have developed ways to ensure minimal data usage while maintaining update speeds and content availability,” he indicated.

Mr Osabutey stated that the site was mobile-friendly, easy to navigate and gave readers the opportunity to give instant feedback on articles published.
