NPC staff now technical advisers on district/regional security councils

The National Peace Council (NPC) has started the deployment of staff to serve as technical advisers on the various district and regional security councils on conflict prevention, management and resolution.

The exercise forms part of a decentralisation programme to consolidate peace in the various communities.

A member of the NPC, Mrs Florence Hutchful, made this known at the opening of a mediation workshop sponsored by the Swiss Embassy for newly recruited staff of the NPC in Ho yesterday.

She said the NPC recognised that in order to build sustainable peace, there was the need to adopt a bottom-up approach, by which it would make use of local knowledge, experiences and expertise in the management of conflicts at the local level.

Mrs Hutchful said although it might be argued that conflict was an undeniable fact of societal existence, the expression and responses to it were, however, critical.
