B/A Regional hospital records fewer maternal deaths

The Brong Ahafo Regional hospital in Sunyani has recorded a 49 per cent reduction in maternal deaths between 2012 and 2015.

There were 35,18, 14 and 17 recorded cases in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Malaria, ear, eye, respiratory and acute urinary tract infections and gynaecological conditions were among the top 10 cases reported at the Out-Patients  Department (OPD) of the hospital in Sunyani.

 

In all, there was a total of 21,056 of those cases recorded at the hospital in 2015 as against 25,825 in 2014, showing a drop of 3,769.

Performance review

These came to light at the 2015 annual performance review meeting of the hospital in Sunyani.

Acute ear infections overtook malaria cases in 2015, recording 3,417 as against 3,206 by the latter during the year under review. Malaria also topped the list with 5,787 cases in 2014, representing 13.4 per cent of the total reported cases for that year.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Jacob Abebrese, said his outfit was committed to providing quality health care for the people in the region to ensure higher productivity for development and transformation.

Dr Abebrese, therefore, urged all stakeholders in the healthcare delivery system to play their respective roles more effectively to achieve that objective.

Advice

The hospital administrator, Mr Abraham Kwame Asare Bediako, advised the staff to put in their best by offering quality services to clients.

According to him, a little bit of sacrifice and creativity could put smiles on the faces of distressed patients who thronged the hospital daily for care.
