Iodised bottled water factory opens

The first iodised bottled water has been introduced onto the Ghanaian market by Well-being Natural Products Ghana Limited.

Sky Water, as it is called, contains bio natural active iodine which fights a number of diseases that are associated with lack of iodine in the human system.

Speaking at the launch of the product at Nsawam yesterday, a specialist surgeon at the Endocrine Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Joachim Amoako said the introduction of the iodised water would help to arrest the spate of goitre.

Iodine deficiency complications

He said the inadequate intake of iodine by a good number of Ghanaians had led to an increase in goitre cases which had culminated in several surgeries at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Dr Amoako explained that iodine was important for correct physical and mental development of every human being.

He said that it played an irreplaceable role in producing thyroid gland hormones which controlled the transformation of primary nutrients in the body.

Dr Amoako said sufficient quantity of iodine was required for the growth and, existence and function of the body cells adding that iodine was one of the main factors needed for normal function of the brain.

He said that iodine also provided the ability for easy conception on the part of females and also prevented spontaneous abortions during pregnancy.

He said the availability of the product should make it possible for top managers and workers who underwent a lot of daily stress, pregnant and nursing mothers, children of all ages, athletes and all active people who required daily amounts of natural iodine to keep them healthy.

Decision to invest in Ghana

The investor in the project, Mr Alex Buksa said that his decision to invest in Ghana was not to only reap huge profits from Ghanaians but to make meaningful contribution to the development of the country.

He said that Sky Water was the only natural water on the African market and that he was proud that Ghana had been chosen as the first destination.

A co-director of Well-being Natural Products Ghana Limited, which is a subsidiary of the Well-being Group in the Czech Republic, Mr Raymond Abraham said the youth of the area ought to avail themselves of the employment opportunities created by the company.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration between the people of Ghana and the Czech Republic would inure first to the people of Nsawam and the rest of Ghanaians.

The Czech Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Margarita Fuchsova said apart from the job opportunities that the investment would provide, it would bring benefits in health to users of the product.
