A Hezbollah statement confirmed that a total of its six members were killed, including the commander.

Sources close to Hezbollah told the Reuters news agency that the son of Imad Moughniyah, the former Hezbollah military leader, was killed in the strike.

Hezbollah, a Shia Muslim group based in Lebanon, is fighting alongside forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against Sunni armed roups trying to overthrow the regime in Damascus.

In the summer of 2006, Hezbollah fought a month-long war with Israel.
