A goodwill message released by the Church noted the enormous challenges that confronted the nation especially during the elections on December 7 but pointed out “the Lord granted us grace to withstand and overcome all. To Him alone be the glory for seeing us through peacefully and successfully.”

“We recall with regret the power crises (dumsor) that gripped the nation, the looming threat of chaos after the 2016 elections and the several road accidents and fires that engulfed and permeated the country this year, but through it all, our God showed Himself strong and victorious. We bless His Holy Name for His great and awesome deeds,” it noted.

The statement expressed thanks to the general Ghanaian populace for rising up to the occasion during the difficult moments and displaying such patience and tolerance.

“We cannot but congratulate the Electoral Commission of Ghana and the National Commission for Civic Education for doing a yeoman’s job with regards to the 2016 elections. Special mention is also being made of the praying Church in Ghana and the other religious groups that helped make Ghana peaceful throughout the year. The media also deserves commendation for doing a great and fantastic job,” it stated.

As we recollect our achievements this year, we admit that we don't know what the future holds for us. However, we have the assurance that no matter what it be, our God is with us. As we usher in the Christmas festivities, it is time to reflect on the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the opportunities we derive from it as a people.

The statement called on all Ghanaians to put their trust in God as we celebrate Christmas in anticipation of a new Government, and for that matter, a new era of governance for the country.

“May the peace which has permeated our nation and been identified with Ghanaians continue to guide us and be our hallmark as we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace,” it said.

“On this joyous occasion of Christmas, all Christians must remember and emulate the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ who left His heavenly glory to give Himself as a sacrifice of peace to reconcile us to God. There must be peace and reconciliation in all homes, families, Church and nation. Those who bear others grudges must let go and be reconciled to them.”

It advised against get-rich quick attitude and urged all Christians not only be concerned with their welfare but also that of others, especially those who do not share their faith.

“To emulate Jesus means to sacrifice for people who may even hate and despise you. Show them Christian love and hospitality without measure,” adding that the season must be used to reach out to the poor, needy, widows, fatherless and orphans.
