Vodafone Icons return with big swag

Black N PeachThe third edition of the popular Vodafone Icons reality show has been uncovered with never-before enrichment both in terms of process and prizes and is  dubbed the “Streetism Edition”.

The past two editions of the show, the Divas Edition which featured only females and Mixed Edition which was a mix of both females and males did enjoy huge patronage.

Unlike the previous two editions in which contestants were put in groups, this year’s edition seeks to discover the talents of individuals hence, contestants will go solo.

What makes this year’s Icon’s edition even more exciting is the introduction of the “Pop up” auditions where the Icons crew storms a community unannounced for wannabe musicians to audition.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Ghana, Uche Ofodile said that it had always been her company’s desire to support music from the grassroots and it was in line with such conviction that the Vodafone Icon was introduced three years ago to serve the purpose.

She stated that since its inception, Icons had served as a platform where raw talents were groomed into professional standards and was optimistic that this year’s edition will empower the contestants to achieve their dreams.

“If your dream is to be a musician whether it’s a woman or it’s a man, then we will help you and create a platform for you to express yourself in that manner,” she added.

According to her, the first two years of the reality show have been very exciting and stated that, past winners of the show – R&M and Black N Peach – are currently basking in the show’s glory and they are currently using that unique opportunity to achieve their dreams.

The show is expected to run for three months and contestants would have the opportunity to be selected by one-on-one auditions, online auditions where the participants would upload a recorded video of themselves and the “pop up” auditions would be held in selected communities across the ten regions in the country remarking “

The introduction of the pop-up audition is to make this year’s Icons even better and more exciting and peculiar from the two previously held ones which were huge successes by all standards and there will be an ICONS bus tour throughout the country.

The first audition was scheduled to come off  last Saturday in Kumasi and will be followed a week later at Accra. However, the pop-up audition started at Koforidua last Friday and will head to Swedru and Takoradi respectively.

The prize package for this year’s winner include GH250, 000, a recording contract with US based Universal recording label, a management contract and a KIA Sportage car.

Miss Naa of Ryse and Shyne fame on YFM and popular producer and sound engineer Apietus and Gena West have been confirmed as judges for the show.

“What makes this year’s edition more unique is the power we will give to the audience to call in during live shows to express their excitement or disappointment during a contestant’s performance” was her response on what makes this year’s edition unique from the previously held ones.
