The opening day of the course recorded a total of 19 participants from India, Nigeria, England and host Ghana, which currently has only four Level Two coaches as compared to Nigeria which has 20.

The high level coaching course, which will cover both the theoretical and practical aspects of tennis, is being facilitated by International Tennis Federation (ITF) instructors, Akinloye Rotimi of Nigeria, and Ghana’s Noah Bagerbaseh, who is the father of Golden Rackets star, Jeff Bagerbaseh.

The President of the GOC, Professor Francis Dodoo, said his outfit recognised the important role competent coaches played in the development of sportsmen and sportswomen, hence its commitment to fund such training programmes.

He also urged the participants to take their studies seriously in order to make a positive impact on tennis players across the world.

He said, "One of the major bottlenecks in the development of athletes is coaching. Let me urge the participants to remain focused and pass on the acquired knowledge to the athletes in order to make them better players."

The course will climax on June 3 with a closing ceremony and award of certificates to deserving and successful coaches.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Joe Kpenge, expressed gratitude to the GOC for organising the course, stating that his outfit had been hampered by funding constraints in its desire to do same.
