According to them, the illegal mining activities in the area were seriously affecting their livelihoods.

The leader of the group, Madam Sarah Nkrumah, made the appeal at a three-day training on advocacy for 50 women from various electoral areas in the district.

She said not only had the yield from their cocoa farms declined significantly, but the streams from which they drank had been badly affected, leaving them with no source of good drinking water.

Madam Nkrumah said cocoa farmers in the area might not even get food to eat nor cater for their children, if the government did nothing about illegal mining activities.

The Executive Director of WOMGA, Ms Esther Tawiah, urged the women to involve themselves in the activities of their various assemblies.

She said they should take interest in the monitoring and tracking of projects as well as notify the district assemblies on issues which would promote good governance.
