Police commanders asked to use modern methods
The Director General in charge of Technical Services of the Ghana Police Service, Mr Frank Adu-Poku, has tasked police commanders to employ current law enforcement strategies to effectively combat crime in the country.

The Director General in charge of Technical Services of the Ghana Police Service, Mr Frank Adu-Poku, has tasked police commanders to employ current law enforcement strategies to effectively combat crime in the country.
He said the use of new technologies would put the police ahead of any situation they might confront in the performance of their duties.
“Crime everywhere is becoming sophisticated and crime trends and patterns keep on changing speedily and that is why we have been entrusted with the security of the state,” he stated.
Mr Adu-Poku was speaking at a graduation ceremony of senior command course two at the Ghana Police Command and Staff College at Winneba on Friday
42 officers underwent a six-week intensive senior command course aimed at building their capacities to be more effective and efficient in their areas of responsibilities.
The Director in charge of the Police Welfare Scheme, Superintendent Samuel Amissah, was adjudged the overall best student. A total of 146 senior officers have so far graduated from the college.
Reduce crime
Commissioner Mr Adu-Poku said one of the core values of policing was to prevent and reduce crime to create an enabling environment for the people to enhance their socio-economic development.
To achieve that, he stated, the Police Administration established the Command and Staff College as the highest institution of learning for police officers.
“The curricula of the college have been designed to enable students to discuss contemporary policing issues that they would be dealing with in the performance of their day-to-day tasks,” he stated.
Be a team player
The commandant of the college, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mrs Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, said one essential quality of a good officer was to be an effective team player.
“Be a good listener and be receptive to good and constructive advice. Avoid pettiness and arrogance,” she told the officers, and asked them to live by the virtues of honesty, discipline, humility and loyalty.
“Let the good people of Ghana feel the impact of your training at this college by your deed and action,” Mrs Addo-Danquah added.
