They released their debut hit album, Awanwadin, in 1990 and since then, they have become a force to reckon with in the Ghanaian gospel music industry.

Indeed, the Daughters of Glorious Jesus have become a household name as many throng their shows to catch a glimpse of them and enjoy their great songs.

In a chat with the Junior Graphic, they said they were motivated by “the testimonies people give when they listen to our music. What God is doing in our lives is enough for us to do more.”

That is why despite the numerous trials they have been through, their focus would continue to be on God who gives them strength.

“We are always humbled when people see us, sometimes in tears, and encourage us to keep doing what we do with our music or tell us about the healing they go through listening to our songs, they said.

“Indeed these are the responses we always pray for with our music because we believe that once God is good enough to give us this talent, we have to do our best to bless the lives of others,” they added.

The trio, Cynthia Agyare Appiadu, Monica Owusu Ansah and Edna Agyare Sarpong, who compose their own songs, said they get inspiration to create music by reading the Bible, doing morning devotions, attending retreats, through their dreams as well as trials, among others.

One of such songs which was released after they went through a very difficult situation in 2003 was Aseda. In that song, the trio recounted their challenges, tribulations and miraculous deliverance from death.

They have been robbed, got involved in motor accidents and nearly got drowned, but in all the near-death encounters, God was faithful and saved them.

For instance, they said, in 1996, God delivered them from drowning in the northern part of the country near Walewale when they were returning from a crusade with Bishop Akwasi Asare Bediako, their spiritual father.

They recalled that in the middle of the lake their boat capsised and everybody fell inside the water. Later, everybody was rescued but Cynthia had a very challenging time as she went deep into the water and out of sight more than six times before she was finally rescued.

After her final rescue, the chief of the town was so amazed that he told them that they indeed worship a great God because nobody falls into the lake and comes out alive.

One unique thing about the trio is that at a very young age they resolved to lead upright lives and, therefore, turned down all the proposals from boys who wanted them to be their girlfriends. At the time, they had no idea that they would even be impacting lives through their music later in life.

“It is important not to mess up when you are young. Whether you are a boy or girl you should never give yourself to anybody, no matter what. Resolve to stand firm,” they advised.

It, is therefore, no wonder that all the three women were virgins when they got married to their respective husbands.

Before the trio came together, Edna and Cynthia, who are siblings were part of a group of five girls who used to sing at the Good News Sunday School of the Assemblies of God Church. The name of the Sunday School was Rev. K. Berchei.

Daughters of Glorious Jesus started as part of the children’s choir of the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries at Santasi in Kumasi, which was then headed by the late Rev. Francis Akwasi Amoako.

Later, when Bishop Akwasi Asare Bediako, the current General Overseer of the church, saw the love these three young girls had for God and their potential as singers, he spoke with their individual parents and the group was formed.

Each of them expressed profound gratitude to Bishop Bediako who has supported them all this while.
