Pupils of the Excel Community School off the Spintex Road in Accra have held the maiden edition of the Cultural Day celebration.
The occasion also coincided with the second edition of the African Union (AU) Day celebration of the school.
Pupils, parents and teachers of the school beautifully dressed in their traditional outfits to depict the rich African tradition.
Schoolchildren had the opportunity to represent their regions; they showcased the various cultures of their regions through dancing, traditional dressing and art.
On exhibition were the different types of dishes from all the regions while the pupils gave a brief history about their culture.
The schoolchildren also displayed the various African flags in a well-staged choreography while some pupils from other African countries displayed their culture.
Speaking to the Junior Graphic, the Supervisor of the Excel Community School, Mrs Leticia Addo, said it was important to celebrate the AU day since Ghana was one of the pioneering states of the union.
She said with the regular celebration of the day in the school, the children would know more about the other African countries.
Throwing more light on the Cultural Day, Mrs Addo explained that “we want to celebrate the diversity in our culture and beyond because we have pupils from Nigeria, Liberia and other African countries.”
“The children would, therefore, experience the other cultures through the celebration,” she added.
In preparation towards the programme, the supervisor said a committee was set up during which every teacher was assigned to a region to ensure that all children gained some knowledge about all the regions after the celebration.
