Calvary Jazz hosts the stars

The atmosphere at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill will be charged with great jazz gospel music tunes when it hosts some of the great instrumentalists on the African music front this Sunday, June 14.

Dubbed, Calvary Jazz concert, the show is expected to draw jazz lovers for a good time with renowned artistes such as Mike Aremu, Wole Oni, Agbola Shadare and Ghana’s Ofie Kodjoe.

As music is said to be a universal language, these artistes from various backgrounds have one goal on the night, to treat their patrons to great jazz gospel songs.

Reputed as one of Africa’s best saxophonist, Mike Aremu is a well travelled saxophonist whose knowledge in his field  has seen him play around the world.  He is the organiser of the largest jazz festival in Nigeria, Sax Appeal.

Aremu has performed with Kenny G, Hugh Masakela, Najee, Kirk Franklin, Marvin Winans, Ron Kenoly, Mary Mary and Adlan Cruz.

Aremu's works has been recognised in Africa and beyond and is the winner of the African Gospel Music Award (AGMA), a TOMA Award (Today's Gospel Music Awards) and an AMEN Award for Best Instrumental Album of the Year and Best Gospel Music Video of the Year in Nigeria.

An accomplished producer, Wole Oni is popularly known for producing Midnight Crew’s hit song, Igwe, which made waves in the country and beyond in 2011.

As a prominent member of the Spectrum 4 Jazz Ensembles, Oni has performed with several jazz and rock bands in the United Kingdom and America.

 A great guitarist, Agboola Shadaare is a Nigerian instrumentalist whose works have seen him play for international artistes such as Bob James, Lauren Hill, Fiath Evans, Yolanda Adams and  Donnie McClurkin.

 His works gained an international appeal when he released the first jazz album in Nigeria titled, Dream Dawn. He is the founder of the Motivation band.

With such musical experience to part away on the night, the Calvary Jazz Festival which will have Ofie Kodjoe perform as well will bring “another dimension of jazz music”, says Samuel Jonathan, the organiser of the event.
