No more Naija songs on my shows—Rashid Lansah

THE controversy surrounding the ‘snub’ of Ghanaian artistes in Nigeria during the launch of Zylofon Media and Menzgold last month seems to be never ending as a presenter with Kesmi FM in Tamale, Rashid Lansah, has vowed not play Nigerian songs on his show again.

Rashid Lansah, who hosts Kesmi FM’s Brunch and Lunch time shows, expressed disappointment at how our celebrated artistes did not receive a good response from the Nigerian audience and attributed this to Ghanaian musicians not getting enough promotion in Nigeria.

‘’Nigeria’s entertainment industry does not or hardly promotes our music or movies. It wasn’t surprising that our biggest artistes were not cheered at the concert,” he told Showbiz.

In his bid to support the growth of our arts industry the radio personality says he will play only Ghanaian songs.

"Their industry is bigger than ours and for us to catch up with them, we need to be giving preference to our musicians first especially on radio stations.

"I won’t play Naija music on my shows again. I think other radio stations should do same or just play five percent of Naija music,” he stated.

Rashid Lansah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Development Studies.

He had spells with Radio FAS in Navrongo and Radio Tamale before moving to Kesmi FM.

The rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria has always been friendly but this issue seems to have raised tensions.

The incident has revived the local content debate with calls from various quarters asking for regulation to ensure more playing time for Ghanaian content and reducing foreign content.

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has called for the swift passage of the Broadcasting Bill.
