Prof Lade Wosornu to speak at 'Ghana Reads'

Also, his proficiency as a great essayist has endeared him to many in the literary world; thus, it will be a good chance for patrons at this year’s edition of Ghana Reads scheduled for the Korle Gonno Community Library on Wednesday, October 7 to tap into his rich knowledge as one of the guest speakers.

The event, which is the third in a series since its inception, is the brainchild of Ghana Reads Initiative and it is focused on creating awareness of the importance of reading and reviving the interest of reading among the youth.

According to Oswald Okaitei, the Convener of Ghana Reads, the event seeks to revive the dying library culture in the country and help create a new generation of readers in Ghana.

He mentioned that this year’s edition marked the International Reading Day, which falls on October 7, and would be in two phases— physical and virtual sessions.

For the physical session, children from Chorkor, Korle Gonno, Jamestown and other suburbs within the Mamprobi Community will get the chance to interact with personalities such as Matilda Amissah-Arthur, former Second Lady, journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, Reggae artiste Blakk Rasta, journalist and Channel Manager for Obonu TV, Nii Odartey Lamptey, Abdul Hayi-Moomen, among others.

The virtual segment comes off on Thursday, October 8 via Facebook, Instagram, Zoom and YouTube.
During the session, Abdul Hayi-Moomen will lead an online reading segment and Manasseh Azure Awuni will lead a conversation on “Promoting the publishing of fiction literature in Ghana and Africa”.

Other dignitaries who will grace the programme are Mr Asare Konadu Yamoah, President, Ghana Book Publishers Association & President, Ghana Cultural Forum, and Dr Wale Okediran, the Secretary-General of the Pan-African Writers Association.

Other activities for the day include the launch of e-books by Foundation for Peace and Development in Africa and Drich Discount Account.

The Ghana Reads project is a partnership with e-Ananse Libraries, Foundation for Security and Development, Drich Discount App, Rotary Club of Accra Industrial, Bureau of Ghana Languages and the Wosornu Foundation.
