Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has questioned the decision to form a five-member committee to search for the next Black Stars head coach, arguing that the association should have identified potential replacements before Carlos Queiroz’s departure.

The Black Stars coaching position became vacant after Queiroz and the GFA mutually agreed to part ways following Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Daily Graphic Sports News Oct - 08 - 2026 , 12:56 2 minutes read

Wonder Sitsofe Mandel, a spokesperson for the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has rejected corruption allegations surrounding Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup visa arrangements, insisting that the Minority’s 49-page statement produced no incriminating evidence linking either the minister or the ministry to illegal visa facilitation, financial misconduct or dealings with private travel operators.

According to Wonder Sitsofe Mandel, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation had no direct contract, commercial agreement or operational engagement with private travel and tour companies, including TRIBE Culture Fest, and maintained that the minister neither facilitated visas illegally nor received any financial benefit from the process.

Minority demands wider World Cup visa probe, seeks greater scrutiny of Sports

Nana Konadu Agyeman Sports News Oct - 08 - 2026 , 12:49 4 minutes read

The Minority in Parliament is demanding a broader investigation into Ghana’s controversial 2026 FIFA World Cup visa arrangements, arguing that a documentary trail now points beyond suspended former National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, to a wider network of institutional actors whose roles, authorisations and financial dealings require scrutiny

Mr Ampofo Ankrah has been suspended pending further investigations into the controversy, but the Minority says accountability cannot stop with one official when correspondence and other documents involving the United States and Canadian embassies raise serious public-interest questions about the roles of the NSA, Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ministry of Sports and Recreation and a private entity, TRIBE Culture Fest.
