Rapperholic is bigger than a concert - Sarkodie

Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has called on the government and private sector to invest in the country’s creative economy, arguing that his flagship Rapperholic concert generates economic opportunities that extend far beyond the stage.

In a social media post following the second consecutive Kumasi edition of the concert, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 24, the rapper said the event stimulates economic activity across Kumasi, Accra and the wider Ghanaian economy.

According to him, the benefits extend beyond ticket sales to include tourism, hospitality, transportation, food, fashion, media, advertising, employment and other businesses within the creative supply chain.

“Rapperholic is bigger than a concert!” he stated, adding that its economic value includes visitor spending, revenue for local businesses, temporary jobs and payments to suppliers, as well as future tourism and commercial opportunities.

He called for stronger collaboration between the government and private sector to build an ecosystem in which Ghanaian entertainment can generate measurable economic value, support businesses, create jobs and attract visitors.

“Let’s invest in our creative economy. The potential goes far beyond the stage,” he added.

Although Sarkodie highlighted the potential economic benefits of the concert, he did not provide figures to quantify its contribution to businesses, employment or tourism.

His comments come after Rapperholic 2026 attracted a large crowd to Kumasi for a night of performances by Sarkodie and several other Ghanaian artistes. The event also featured a tribute to the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, and gospel singer, Bernice Offei and a culturally inspired entrance that blended Asante heritage with hip-hop. It was the second consecutive year the concert had been staged in the Ashanti Regional capital.

Beyond the economic conversation, Sarkodie also paid tribute to his loyal fan base, SarkNation, crediting its members with helping to promote the concert both online and on the ground.

In a separate post, the rapper expressed gratitude to the fans for their commitment to making the event successful, saying their efforts had been instrumental even before he intensified his public relations campaign.

“Even before I intensified my PR efforts, you guys were already on the ground and online, promoting the hell out of this event!” he wrote.

He said the fans had demonstrated that Rapperholic belonged as much to them as it did to him, describing their dedication as deeply meaningful.

“What have I done to deserve the amount of work you put in to make this show happen? I honestly don’t have the words to express how I feel,” he added.

He concluded by thanking members of SarkNation for their continued support.

Rapperholic, which has grown into one of Ghana’s prominent annual music events since its launch in 2012, has traditionally been associated with Accra’s December entertainment calendar.

Its return to Kumasi for a second consecutive year extends the event’s reach beyond the capital and reinforces the potential for major concerts to contribute to entertainment and tourism activity in other parts of the country.
