His key goal is to raise the profile of road safety for the public.

He is embarking on the campaign in collaboration with the police, transport unions, passengers, municipal and district assemblies. Others are opinion leaders, religious leaders, the media and the general public.

It will be recalled that he embarked on a similar road safety campaign during the 2012 election.

As political parties criss-cross the length and breadth of the nation, he is embarking on a road safety campaign this year to mitigate road accidents.

Mr Bunya, who is the Director of Operations of the United Front Party (UFP), told the Daily Graphic that he had used all the major roads in the 10 regions of Ghana and found out that it was necessary to advocate road safety and peace during this year’s election period.

As part of his road safety advocacy, Mr Bunya has posted peaceful messages and indications on his motorbike to preach peace and safety before, during and after the election.

“There have been times that I have cleared weeds on some of  the roads with my cutlass, because I think whoever uses the road should be able to see what is behind him. We also have to make sure we get home safely,” he said.

Meanwhile, from Accra, he would be going to Koforidua to continue his road safety campaign.

He advised that people should be educated on the road safety regulations and also abide by its regulations irrespective of the party they belonged in order to ensure a peaceful and safe election.

“Ghanaians should be educated on road safety during election period so that they do not cause any accident or death during this time,” he mentoned.

One Ghana

According to Mr Bunya, he believed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were both seeking the larger interests of the country and, therefore, there should be no need for political banter between their supporters.

“Ghana is not for the NPP and NDC, it is for all citizens irrespective of the party they belong to, NPP and NDC are one Ghana,” he added.

 Be responsible

He urged the political parties to minimise the use of long convoys and appealed to motor riders to wear their helmets all the time and avoid speeding.

He also added that people should be responsible for their actions and must be held accountable for whatever they did irrespective of the party they belonged  to ensure a peaceful and safe election. “When there is war, you cannot ride or drive around,” he stated.
