“It is God who has called me, unworthy as I am, to be a servant to His people, that through the word and the sacrament, many people will get to know Jesus Christ,” he said.

In an interview after the anniversary Mass at the St Theresa’s Catholic Church last Friday evening, Rev, Fr Owusu-Ofori said he saw his calling as a priest as “a call to service; a call not to be served but to serve, and that in serving, Christ will be made known to many people.”

Rededicated life

He said he wanted to rededicate his life to God and “allow the will of God to have a place in my life and that I want to avail myself to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to direct me and use me, so that in bringing the Good News to people, they will be happy in serving God”.

It was his wish that through his ministry, many people would come to the knowledge of God, so that their well-being would be meaningful as far as the worship of God was concerned.

Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori

He was grateful to God for choosing him among men to be a minister to Him to serve at His altar.

Ordained on August 25, 2007, Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori started his priestly life at the St Paul Catholic Church at Kpehe and later the St Kizito Catholic Church, Nima, before being transferred to the St Theresa’s Catholic Church.

In a homily, the Parish Priest of the St James Catholic Church, Osu, Rev. Fr Daniel Mawuli Tettedji, described Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori as a gentle, focused and humble person.

Ten years

He said 10 years in Christianity was significant, saying that God gave Moses 10 commandments, which contained all that he needed to tell mankind, “and so for 10 years in priestly service, all that Rev, Fr Owusu-Ofori needs to live his priestly life to the fullest have been realised”.

He reminded Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori that the joy and sorrow as a priest summed up to strengthen him for the work ahead.

He said to be a priest was a gift that God gave freely and no one should boast about it, adding that as Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori celebrated his 10 years in the priestly service, he should be reminded that it was a gift God gave him and he should protect it.

Bridge builder

Rev. Fr Tettedji said to be a priest was to be a bridge builder and reminded Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori to ensure that at any moment of his life, he should be seen as a bridge builder wherever he found himself.

He expressed concern over the in-fighting and backbiting among parishioners and urged Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori to build bridges among parishioners.

Rev. Fr Tettedji thanked God for Rev. Fr Owusu-Ofori’s life and prayed that he would have many more years in serving God, who had called him to shepherd His flock.
