Soldiers deployed to flush out illegal miners from water bodies

Soldiers were on Thursday deployed by the government to flush out illegal miners from water bodies and forest areas.
Working in collaboration with a task force from the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners (GNASSM), the team were in the Eastern Region on Thursday as part of the intensified efforts to combat illegal mining.

As of midday Thursday, three chanfan machines, which were being used to extract gold and were located at the banks of the Birim River in the Eastern Region had been seized and demobilised by the soldiers.
