The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced a series of planned maintenance exercises across Accra and Ashanti regions on Tuesday, June 23, even as engineers scramble to repair multiple network faults that have plunged several communities into darkness.

In the Accra West Region, ECG will undertake planned maintenance works from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Odorkor, Awoshie, A-Lang, Gbawe CP, Pentecost University, Israel Park, Israel Filling Station, Ayigbe Junction and surrounding areas. The maintenance is part of the company's efforts to improve service delivery, and ECG has apologised for the inconvenience that will arise from the exercise.

A similar exercise in the Ashanti Region, classified as emergency maintenance, will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Tuesday, affecting Nerebehi, Adankwame, Kontomire, Asakraka, Mfensi, Atasomanso, Konkromoase, Apire, Ampatia, Darko, Trede, Ampabame, Complex, Nyankyerenease, Owabi, Bokankye, Koforidua, Ntensere, Manhyia, Abuakwa and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, unplanned outages continue to afflict communities across the country following a series of infrastructure failures. In the Western Region, residents in Asemkrom, Jema, Boinso, Omanpe, Kwahu, Atokosue, Nkwanta, Enchi Township, Elubo, Nyankamam, Akontombra, New and Old Yakasi, Adjakaa, Achimfo, Abokyia and surrounding areas are without power due to a broken high-tension pole at Half Assini. A separate broken HT pole at Tanokrom has also cut power to parts of Tanokrom, Newsite, TTI and surrounding areas.

In the Accra East Region, a burnt high-tension pole on the Tebibianor Feeder has disrupted electricity supply to New England, Tebibianor, Camp 2, St. John's, Korjor, Penny, and surrounding areas. The Tema Region is also battling network faults affecting Mobole, Ataa Mensah, Perftech, Zugbeynate, Afienya Youth Leadership Training Centre, Philip Kope, Greenhouse Enclave and surrounding areas. A separate fault in the Tema network has also affected Greenshield International School and the surrounding areas.

In the Accra West Region, a cable fault at Mamprobi has caused outages in parts of Mamprobi Camara, parts of Chorkor Chemuena, and surrounding areas. ECG has assured affected customers that engineers are working assiduously to rectify the faults and restore supply.

The company has also advised customers to distinguish between planned and unplanned outages, explaining that planned outages are announced in advance because the schedule, including expected restoration time, is known, while unplanned outages occur as a result of faults or other unforeseen conditions. ECG has urged customers to exercise patience and assured them of its commitment to resolving all issues as quickly as possible.
