FULL TIME: England 0:0 Ghana

England owned the ball and the territory, but Ghana owned the duels and the clearances.

At the end of the 90+6 mins, it was a deadlock, goalless in the Group L match between Ghana and England, with both moving to four points in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

England laboured in attack but despite dominating possession and having a 78.8% of the ball  possession - the highest share of any team on record in a World Cup match, they could not penetrate a solid Ghanaian defence with Thomas Partey at the helm of midfield and control.

Ghana's technical strategy with Coach Carlos Queiroz in charge was to frustrate the three lions, as he put it at a pre-match press conference, they were going to meet 33 million lions.

With four points secured from two games each, Ghana and England remain firmly on course to reach the knockout stages but still have work to do on both sides to either claim top spot or second place in Group L.

Ghana takes on Croatia and England takes on Panama on Saturday in their final Group L matches.

First half

England completed 190 passes more than Ghana in the opening 35 minutes, but it took until then to fashion their one and only clear chance of the first half when Declan Rice nodded over after Noni Madueke had isolated his full-back in a rare sign of intent.

At halftime in Foxborough, it was England 0-0 Ghana in FIFA World Cup Group L, a scoreline that says “even” while the numbers say “one-way traffic.”

England posted 81% possession and 347 total passes to Ghana’s 82, plus a 57-15 edge in final third entries at half time.

Six England shots arrived, none of them on target, and four were blocked by a busy Ghana back line.

The stalemate, with England at 0.27 and Ghana at 0.00. Declan Rice collected the only card of the half in the 41st minute, and there was six minutes added on.
