Mission Africa holds 16th AU Day prayer conference

The Founder of Mission Africa Incorporated, a non-governmental organisation based in the United States, has said that the time has come for the Church to stand behind political and traditional leaders to steer the affairs of the nation.

“Now is the hour that government needs the Church more than ever. The global crisis cannot be solved without answering prayers from the God above. If the Lord does not build the house, those who labour do it in vain, especially African leaders,” Dr Kodjoe Sumney said in a statement.

The statement said Africa should not relax and think that aid from foreign donors could restore or solve her economic pestilence, saying “The challenge is in our courts and I believe God has given Africa all the natural resources to rebuild Africa, if Africans can believe God’s gift to Africa is not revocable”.

He said countries on the continent must delve deeply into skill development so that their peoples could produce things for their citizens to buy for Africa to develop and sustain itself.

Background

For the past 21 years, Mission Africa has been organising conferences in the USA to spread positive image about Africa and also bring people in the diaspora back to the African soil for various humanitarian assistance programmes such as medical supplies to clinics and hospitals and renovating and building schools in the remote areas in the country.

It also assists persons with disability with wheelchairs.

In the last 15 years, Dr Sumney has brought 1,020 African Americans, other non-African nationals and friends of Africa to Africa for economic development and job creation.

This year, he will bring the first batch of 50 African Americans in response to the government’s appeal in celebrating the 400 year’s historic slavery and the Year of Return.

Dr Sumney said the growing youth population of Africa came with high energy, creativity and talents, adding that the time had come to utilise it by the development of their technical and vocational skills.

He announced that Mission Africa, in collaboration with the Parliament of Ghana, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and several stakeholders of Africa economic development, would meet at the foyer of Parliament on Saturday, May 25, 2019 to pray for Africa on various topics.

Dubbed “Skills for Job Creation to make Africa Great Again”, Dr Sumney said the meeting would emphasise on peace in all sub-regions in Africa and, therefore, called on the general public and prayer warriors of all denominations to attend the meeting.
