Biography of the late Mrs Lucy Harriet Addo

Mrs Lucy Harriet Addo, popularly known as Aunty Lucy, was born on 11th May, 1959 at Juaso to the late Mr Samuel Addo (Gyaase) and Mrs Beatrice Addo (Akua Gyamea), all of Awukugua. She began her basic education at the West African Cocoa Research Institute (WACRI) now known as the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) at Tafo in the Eastern Region. She continued to Aburi Girls’ Secondary School and completed in 1977.

Due to her intelligence, she was on scholarship from her Primary through Secondary education. Between September 1977 and 1980, she was at the Presbyterian Training College, Akropong-Akuapim, where she obtained her Cert A (Post-Secondary) certificate. 

Thereafter, she was posted to Sempe 2 Boys School at Mamprobi to begin her professional teaching. She gained admission to the Advanced Teacher Training College, Winneba after four years of teaching and graduated with a Diploma Certificate in English and Education.  She was later posted to Nifa Secondary School at Adukrom where she met her husband, Rev. Fredrick Addo. They got married on 3rd March, 1990. In order to join her husband in Accra, she applied for a transfer and was posted to Wesley Grammar School as an English tutor. 

Not satisfied with her academic status, Aunty Lucy continued to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and obtained a B.A (Hons) Degree in English and Religious Studies and a Diploma in Education. She taught at Kinbu Secondary Technical School after her 1st degree and was the Head of English Department.  She finally crowned her academic work at IEPA, UCC and obtained an M.Ed (Administration). She was a GNAT Representative at the Adehye Hall in UCC from 1996-1997. She was also a part-time tutor at the UEW Distance Education Programme.  In church, she was also the Welfare Committee Chairperson, an English teacher at the Adult English Sunday School class and a constant resource person for the Women’s Ministry.

She also worked with the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), English Department, as an examiner for many years.

She joined the Graphic Communications Group Limited in May 2004, where she won the Best Employee Award for the Proofreading Department in 2006. On July 3, 2013,  she was promoted to the position of Assistant Head of her unit (Proofreading). 

On the 15th of July, 2016, she was referred from the Ga South Municipal Hospital to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where she was on intensive treatment till her unfortunate demise on the 23rd of July, 2016. We have lost a great woman of God, an academician and mother.
