NIB opens 36th branch at Swedru

The National Investment Bank (NIB) has opened a new branch at Swedru in the Central Region as part of its quest to provide its customers with convenient banking.

The branch, which is the 36th to be opened, forms part of NIB’s aggressive branch expansion this year to bring its services to the door steps of its customers in the area.

The new branch brings to three the new outlets the bank has opened in the Central Region.

It has already opened eight branches this year at East Legon, Nester Square at Airport, New Court Complex, all in the Accra metropolis; Hohoe in the Volta Region, Asokwa in the Ashanti Region and Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the new branch at Agona Swedru, the Managing Director of the NIB, Mr Ernest Agbesi, said “we intend to open branches at Ashante Mampong, Suame, Yendi, Nkwanta and Sawla among others before the end of the year. The desire is to open 12 branches this year and I can say with confidence that we are almost there. Our desire has been to open a lot of branches so that NIB branches can be within arm’s reach of all our customers.”

More branches

Mr Agbesi said the banking system had witnessed dramatic changes, with unprecedented increase and access to many bank channels, with electronic channels becoming the order of the day.

He gave a hint that the management of the NIB had also put in place the technology infrastructure to compete on the electronic banking platform.

Competition in the sector, he added, had intensified and banks were making efforts to open more branches.

“With the requirement by the Bank of Ghana for banks to recapitalise, banks will be able to take on greater risks and NIB is gearing up for this,” he stated.

Interestingly, he said, domestic interest rates had continued to rise as a result of inflation, expansion of the economy and increase in government expenditure, among others, against the backdrop of the competitive situation in the banking landscape today.

Patronage

The MD gave an assurance that the management of the NIB had put in place a strategic plan to ensure that “we offer you convenience in our quest to serve you. In the light of this, we have commenced the re-modelling of some of our banking halls.”

Mr Agbesi said it had been observed that Swedru was predominantly a centre for small and medium enterprises (SME) and “we will not let you down if you bring your businesses to us.”

“We support the growth of Ghanaian businesses and our expectation is that the money we advance to you to support your businesses will be used as such,” he said and urged the bank’s customers to patronise its services.

Excellent services

He said the bank took pride in the quality of its staff and would, therefore, continue to train and recruit the best staff to enable it to serve its customers better.

“We will continue to strive to give you excellent customer-service delivery each time you bank with us,” he stated, adding that they needed customers to support them so that NIB at Swedru could grow.
