Assembly members must be epitome of good leadership - Agudey

The Presiding Member of the Ada East District Assembly, Mr Godwin Agudey, has tasked assembly members to be epitomes of good leadership in their communities.

He urged the assembly members to lead and provide guidance for the electorate by finding solutions to minor problems in the society..

He stated this at the first ordinary session of the Ada East District Assembly which was to consider the assembly's Authority Report for ratification and implementation.

Mandate

Mr Agudey explained that assembly members had the mandate to formulate and execute plans, programmes and strategies for the effective mobilisation of resources necessary for the overall development of their jurisdictions.

He said the prime objective of an assembly member should be the development of his or her electoral area and the district at large, pointing out that it could be started at the grass roots.

He, therefore, charged assembly members to explore opportunities in the areas of agriculture, tourism and other sectors that could generate income for the residents.

That, he said, would help reduce unemployment and make lives meaningful for them and their families.

Unit Committees

Touching on the training of Unit Committee members, Mr Agudey called on assembly members to empower and support the Unit Committees to deliver quality services to their respective communities.

He said the Unit Committees could perform better “if they are well trained to help solve minor problems in the society”.

Health issues

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the District Chief Executive, Ms Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, said health issues had become one of the critical areas which the assembly was paying attention to.

She said efforts were being made to ensure that all the health facilities in the district worked efficiently and effectively towards the satisfaction of the health needs of the people.

She noted that the major health problem facing the district was the predominance of malaria cases, indicating that a number of preventive measures, including public health education, had been adopted to deal with the problem.

Stakeholders

Ms Pobee said the assembly would continue to work with stakeholders to ensure the holistic development of Ada.

She called on the traditional authority, political parties, security operatives, religious leaders and other interested parties in Ada to join forces with the assembly towards the rapid development of the district. - GNA
