Translate personal life stories into publications — Publisher

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Print Innovation, Mr Daniel Annan, has called on the public to translate their ideas and personal life stories into publications.

He said not only would that help channel information to enrich public knowledge and discourse; it could also enable the publishers to earn extra income which they could channel into other productive ventures.

Mr Annan said his company, a publishing house, was ready to support such publications as it was already familiar with misconceptions and challenges people faced in publishing their works.

Speaking at the second Authorship Conference in Accra, he stated that the publishing company was ready to offer assistance to anybody who was interested in writing books but faced challenges.

“Print Innovation exists to help as many writers as possible to produce their own book while making money out of it. We will also continue to debunk assertions that producing books  obscure,” he said.

He added that all must contribute to eradicating the proverbial adage that “if you want to hide information from a Ghanaian put it in a book. We, as a publishing company with the aim of empowering writers, want to change that notion and enlighten people on the processes involved in writing a book, and helping them gain substantial income from it,” he said.

Book business

Elaborating on earning as a writer, best-selling author, Mr Bernard Kelvin Clive, urged writers to focus on publishing their books on Amazon, the world's largest online retailer.

“Adopting the habit of self-publishing or digital publishing facilitates the sale of one’s book, thus earning money quickly,” he said.

A Communication Consultant at Mahogany Consult, Mrs Baaba Cofie, explained that social media served as an important marketing tool that reached millions of users, thus its adoption should be considered.

“Use as many social media platforms as possible, while posting good content frequently to attract a maximum number of followers,” she said.

An editor at the Charismata Editorial Services, Mrs Emafa Mekpor, urged the public, especially the youth to believe in themselves and put their ideas into writing.

She said editors existed to modify their ideas and correct their mistakes to make them worthy for sale.

“Keep on writing down your ideas and then contact an editor or a publishing company to help produce them into a book,” she urged.

The conference

The meeting dubbed “Authorpreneurship Conference” was on the theme “Write effectively, Publish successfully. The Write Experience .”

It sought to expose writers to several avenues available to earn money.

Participants in the conference were taken through topics such as “turning your ideas into books”, “using social media as a tool for book marketing”, “how to publish your e-book on Amazon” and “how to craft effective book titles”.
