Ever heard or read of the remarkable tale behind the Trojan horse? It goes like this. When the Greeks had fruitlessly tried to invade Troy, they finally resorted to giving them a gift of a wooden horse.

Hidden inside the Greeks’ gift, however, was the elite force of the Greek army. When the city of Troy had gone to bed that night, the Greek soldiers descended from the horse and conquered them. 

The history of Oyarifa, a town in the Greater Accra Region, is shaped by the journey of a hunter.

It was originally called “Oyamfa”, but over time, it got adulterated to its present name, Oyarifa.

Oyarifa carries a historical heritage shaped by early settlement, cultural practices, and gradual transformation over time. 

Haemophilia is inherited, which means that it is passed on through a parent’s gene. It is located on the X chromosome, and since a male child inherits the Y chromosome from the father and an X chromosome from the mother, the disease tends to be seen more in male children. 

It is rarely seen in females if a father with the disease marries a woman who is a carrier of the gene. 

In that case, there is a 50 per cent chance of giving birth to a female with the disease.

A few years ago, a young lady doctor joined a social club and met a young man of her dreams.

Yesterday, Friday, April 17, 2026, was World Haemophilia Day, commemorated on the theme: “Diagnosis: First step to care".

This theme highlights the urgent need to identify the estimated 75 per cent of people with haemophilia and an even more significant gap for other bleeding disorders, implying that hundreds of thousands of people around the world still lack access to basic care.

It is heartwarming to know that we have the power—and the shared commitment—to change this.

Some commercial motorbike riders have complained that fares on ride- hailing apps are too low despite the convenience of the apps.

This concern comes months after Parliament passed the Road Traffic Amendment Bill in December 2025, legalising their operations and ride-hailing apps introducing commercial motorbikes (okada) options along cars.

The passing of the bill means that beyond booking motorbikes for package delivery on these apps, passengers can now request rides, often at a lower rate than the existing car options.

A farmer and spiritualist, Sammed Yussif, has been arraigned before the Tarkwa Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding four persons of GH¢10,700 under the pretext of doubling the money.
